What Somewhere Safe stores
Somewhere Safe stores your account email, password authentication records, inventory names and descriptions, quantities, location hierarchy, tags, container details, photos, reminders and notification preferences. This information provides your private inventory and synchronizes it between devices signed into your account.
Photos, voice and QR labels
Camera and photo-library access are used when you choose to attach an image or scan a label. Microphone access is used when you choose to dictate a description. Dictation audio is sent to OpenAI for transcription only after you agree for that recording. The app sends the recording for processing without saving it in your cloud inventory. You can type instead. QR generation sends a container link to the goQR service. The link contains an opaque identifier, and opening private container contents requires the owner's account.
Service providers
Convex hosts account and inventory data, photo storage and cloud backups. Resend delivers password recovery emails. OpenAI transcribes requested recordings. goQR creates QR images. Expo and the device platform deliver enabled push notifications. These providers process the information needed for their respective functions under their own service policies.
Local storage and backups
The app caches inventory information and photos on your device for offline use. Offline item changes stay on the device until they synchronize. The service keeps the ten most recent cloud restore points. A deleted inventory item can remain in an earlier restore point until that backup expires. Exported files remain wherever you save or share them.
Your choices
You can change notification preferences in Settings and camera, microphone and photo permissions in device settings. You can edit or remove inventory, export your data, and permanently delete your account in Settings > Account by typing DELETE. Account deletion removes the account's inventory, photos, reminders, custom locations and tags, cloud backups and authentication records. Files you exported or shared separately are not removed.
Access and security
Inventory access is restricted to its signed-in owner. Administrators manage shared preset tags and starter location templates. Network requests use HTTPS, and the authentication service hashes passwords. Protect your password and any exported inventory files. If you need help accessing your account, contact Somewhere Safe, LLC at administrator@somewheresafe.co.
